Web-Letter, Issue 145 – Provence Striped Top

Sometimes simple can be the most stunning. Galina Carroll has created this week's Web-Letter design—a beautifully easy top, knitted in CEY's Provence yarn. There is very minimal shaping, yet the shape and stitch pattern creates an elegant draped fabric worn over the shoulders, or as low off the shoulders as you dare. Read on to see what Galina has to say about her design.

The Story:

From Galina:
I truly believe that every woman, without exception, has beautiful shoulders. Since the earliest times this part of a woman’s body was an inspiration for many artists. Shoulders do not age as quickly as other parts of the body. Open shoulders in the evening are accessories in themselves. This garment can be worn any time night or day and look very appealing.

The Yarn:

Provence
100% mercerized Egyptian cotton

Provence is mercerized Egyptian cotton that knits into a strong and beautiful fabric.

Egyptian cotton has two qualities that make it a great cotton yarn: a very long staple (fiber) length and a small diameter. The long staple gives the yarn strength and sheen; and the delicate diameter means that it spins into a soft, smooth yarn. Mercerizing makes a yarn that is stable, takes dye well, and is less likely to shrink.

Provence comes in a whopping 56 colors. Use the colors Galina did, or mix and match to make your own unique combination.

The Stitches:

Before Galina sent us her finished garment, she tried a couple different ways of accenting the collar—with purple fringe and then with the method she decided on, the red fringe. Here are the photos she took showing the different colors of fringe.
