Issue 212 – Magnolia Swirl Cowl

There is no other yarn like Magnolia available on the market. A blend of Merino wool and silk, the yarn reflects light and almost glows in the sun. The single-ply construction combined with the fiber content make it so incredibly soft that it practically begs to be worn next to the skin. The colors are feminine, but remain grown-up. This yarn exudes luxury at an affordable price.

The Magnolia Swirl Cowl from the ever-stylish Laura Zukaite really got me thinking. The finishing is fascinating and the look is modern and hip. This kind of ingenuity is exactly why I leave the designing to the experts! Read a little more about Laura, her design process, and how she got started in knit design on the blog.

The Yarn:

Magnolia
70% Merino • 30% Silk

An exquisite blend of merino and silk, Magnolia has a subtle sheen and great stitch definition. The semi-solid colors give Magnolia the illusion of light reflecting off the surface of the fabric. Magnolia's elegance is perfect for dressy, special occasions or for everyday luxury.

From the CEY Blog:

Laura Zukaite's designs are known for their interesting construction, technicality, and stylishness. She not only has two books under her belt, but also was the winner of Vogue Knitting's Magic of Mohair design contest at VKLive NYC. She learned to knit as a child, and her comfort level with a pair of pointy sticks is evident as you browse her extensive catalogue of patterns.

You can find Laura's designs in many of our collections, including Afternoon Light in Kumara and Glacier in Ariosa, both from our Fall 2011 Collection. If you are a fan of her work, or if you're just interested in reading about the design process of a working knitwear designer, head to our blog to read her interview.
