Issue 213 – Toboggan Sideways Cardigan

This week’s pattern is knit in one of our new yarns for fall 2011: super soft and bulky Toboggan. Toboggan is a luscious blend of merino and superfine alpaca and, at a gauge of 2¾ - 3 stitches per inch, it knits up very quickly! It's available in a palette of sixteen colors - fun bright colors as well as neutral and soft shades like the ballerina pink shown here.

This cardigan was intended to be part of our Toboggan pattern booklet but wasn't quite finished in time. Worked from side to side in one piece, this cardigan is great for layering. The cabled yoke is shaped with short rows and turning points are hidden in the cables. The length can easily be altered by casting on more or fewer stitches, and the finishing is minimal.

Toboggan
70% Merino • 30% Superfine Alpaca

Toboggan is a blend of merino wool and superfine alpaca twisted into a soft, weighty skein of bulky yarn, 87 yards per 100 gram hank.

The double ply and unbelievably soft hand contribute to buttery soft and lofty Fall garments and accessories. The accompanying pattern booklet features simple pieces, most of which can be worked up easily using one or two hanks.

Toboggan is the perfect go-to yarn for holiday gift-giving. At 2¾ stitches per inch on US 10½, you can whip up some mittens or a hat in a snap!
